Will my current FCP plugins work with FCP X? Or will I have to wait for new releases and update them? Thanks

No one knows yet. My guess is that they will not work w/FCP X, but only time will tell.

Not any more than I can hold that her own stupidity led to this as well.

Like I said previously, putting yourself in harm's way should not in any way absolve you from blame for what happens. When you use yourself as a human shield, you're going to get hurt - why should it be the other guy's fault? When was the last time you tried to jump off the front of a moving vehicle?

Ah, computer vision guys. We know that from Grenoble there are very strong developments in this area. I am working more in Image Processing with some usage of computer vision... new ways of communication and latest developments in machine learning and computer vision sometimes sprang out in quite surprising solutions!

Definitely, it will be interesting to see how it will develop.

Though, i love more that music in background :)

At least two women have been briefly detained in France while wearing Islamic veils, after a law banning the garment in public came into force.

Police said they were held not because of their veils but for joining an unauthorised protest, and they were later released.

France is the first country in Europe to publicly ban a form of dress some Muslims regard as a religious duty.

Offenders face a fine of 150 euros (133; $217) and a citizenship course.

People forcing women to wear the veil face a much larger fine and a prison sentence of up to two years.

The two women detained had taken part in a demonstration outside Notre Dame cathedral in Paris. Police said the protest had not been authorised and so people were asked to move on. When they did not, they were arrested.

I am not sure how I feel about this law. I would feel a lot better if the government had not used as their reasoning
The French government says the face-covering veil undermines the basic standards required for living in a shared society and also relegates its wearers to an inferior status incompatible with French notions of equality.

but rather something like "this prevents us from identifying people by face" or something like that, instead of something which says to me, "we decided face veils are not tolerable, cuz, well, we did."

Since it's hard to find out who the employees can leak prototype info to, Apple/Foxconn will have to sue for an amount significantly higher than the "commission" those third-party manufacturers can afford, so nobody would ever attempt this again.

If you need to hear my opinion on the Jewish/ Israeli Lobby; Yes, I completely agree that it is a powerful force. However, that's not focus of the story.

Do you think that the US media are hypersensitive when it comes to criticising the pro-Israeli lobby?

There can also be no question that one who reports the news needs to remain relatively objective. I could give a damn what she says in private but when one starts expressing their opinion in a profession such a journalism, you lose all credibility to report a story without undue bias.

Well, she did express it more or less in a private capacity.

Perhaps the essence of her admittedly clumsy criticism of Jewish political influence was an attempt at a level of objectivity that is lacking in the media. Whenever a person dares criticise the pro-Israel lobby, that person is pummeled by a crowd of jerking knees and cries of anti-Semitism. I'm not excusing Thomas at all, I think she went too far in her language, but I think she has a point.

I have no problem with her expressing her opinion/ point of view but with her (former) standing, she could probably wrangle a ton of op-ed space/ television interviews to voice her concerns in a tactful manner.

...unless the media are not interested in talking about that side of the story. Come to think about it, we don't hear much about it in the media, do we?....

Yeah right... Mister Tough Guy. :D

    Given birth lately?

I am not even going to debate the childbirth thing. That one thing proves beyond a doubt that women are so much tougher than men.

However, I got my nipple pierced when I was much younger and it was intense but not so much painful. It really gave me quite a rush. It helped too that my girlfriend at the time was there so I was determined not to look like a whimp. It suprised me how little pain their really was. Just my 2 cents on the subject.

Everybody already knows Apple's product release schedule, so to attract more clicks, the bloggers/analysts start making up off-schedule releases rumors. ;) I mean saying new iPhones coming in June is not "hot news" anymore after a while.

To me, if Apple sell the iPhone 5 unlocked in the US, I'll buy. If not, no buy. I'll be looking for the LG G2x instead.

I only have 1 GB with my MacPro. Excel & Word only run slowly if I'm also running Parallels Desktop for Mac at the same time. Add in FireFox & you'll find out how slow virtual memory can be big time.

At those time I'm not sure I can wait until those FB DIMMs come down in price to a more reasonable, affordable level.

    Bill the TaxMan

On my Powerbook, opening after restart all roughly 20 standard applications which I keep always running already brings the RAM consumption to over 1.1 GB. If you do not want to resign yourself to running only a handfull applications at a time 1 GB is not enough, 1.5 GB will do if you run only one big app at a time. If you want to run Rosetta better get 2 GB or more or run Rosetta and nothing else.

If it does end up being streamed "live" can you imagine the struggle everyone will have attempting to log on and watch. The drop outs on a non-live Apple event after they're posted is bad enough!

Hey guys, although I've been a daily reader of Macrumors (and its forums) for about 3 years now I've never actually posted anything before (mostly because my views and thoughts are usually already expressed by members).

Anyway, I thought I'd actually add my 2 cents to this thread.
Although I would love to see Leopard released in MWSF I highly doubt it. What you have to remember is that Apple has been getting a lot of press coverage this year from the media. More and more reporters are coming to Apple's Media Events so they don't need to release Leopard in MWSF to steal the thunder from Vista's release. All they need to do is give a spectacular demo of OS 10.5 with all the "secret features" either at MWSF or shortly afterwards at a Special Media Event. If these "secret features" are in any way revolutionary (or really really cool) the media will eat it up and will focus a lot of their Tech News on Leopard in relation to Vista (instead of Vista vs. Tiger like they did this year). Vista will look like its 4 years behind Mac OS just from a FULL demo of Leopard even if they don't officially release it till April. Apple can do the "secret features" demo, make all the press fall in love with Leopard and then spend the next 2 months putting the final touches on everything while the media talks about how superior Leopard will be to Vista. And on top of that they will be talking about the newly released iTV, iPhone, etc... so Apple will be getting a LOT of press coverage in the beginning of 2007. It will be Apple's year not Vista's so they don't need to release it early. I do think they will release it around end of February/early March though.

    Some reading for citizenzen ...

    ^^^ what he said

Mac'nCheese, from your link, I believe this is the passage you were referring to ...

The norms for public behavior in Saudi Arabia are extremely conservative, and the Commission on Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice (CPVPV), the religious police (Mutawwa or Al-Hayah colloquially), are charged with enforcing these standards on behalf of the CPVPV. Mutawwa are required to carry special identification and usually are accompanied by uniformed police; however, in some cases they have detained persons without police presence. To ensure that conservative standards of conduct are observed, the Saudi religious police have accosted or arrested foreigners, including U.S. citizens, for improper dress or other alleged infractions, such as consumption of alcohol or association by a female with a male to whom she is not related. While most incidents have resulted only in inconvenience or embarrassment, the potential exists for an individual to be physically harmed or deported. U.S. citizens who are involved in an incident with the Mutawwa should report the incident to the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh or the U.S. Consulates General in Jeddah or Dhahran.

So the answer, in your mind, is to take the poor example of another country in order to justify the same behavior in your own?

I've always wondered how people could come to that conclusion. We're supposed to be better than that. We're supposed to set a standard for personal freedom, and not justify taking it away simply because somebody else does.

But I understand the ideals of freedom are hard to live up to, and the lure of oppression can sometimes be a siren song that lures the weak to its attractive melody.

I will simply urge that you two not succumb to rationalizing oppression simply because it exists elsewhere in the world. I would ask you two to embrace the ideals of freedom even for those whose choices aren't in line with the cultural norm.

Well provided AT&T actually acts on the information generated by the app, it's a win-win. Customers get to report exact gaps in performance and AT&T has an inexpensive and widespread source of feedback to act on.
yep, a win-win situation, where all of you guys are doing the drive-test for free. I think ATT is pretty happy now. ;)
Waiting for some troubleshooting apps, so you can do even more volunteering work for ATT. Indeed, a win-win.

Anyways, for ATT, this is a perfect little app to save lots of money for them. Smart idea.

    You don't have depth perception?

Quite a few people don't have good depth perception, or none at all.

People with unequal strength eyes will oftentimes grow up without much depth perception, to no ill effect.

I agree with you. I went from 10.(1) to 10.3 and found a HUGE improvement. When I went to Tiger, it just got better. Better connectivity for wireless and talking to other computers. Trying to get the Mac networked to Windows was a headache, with Panther, it was easier, Tiger got it to the point where you didnt have to do much at all!

Now though, I can see some parts of Tiger's flaws. You get the impression theres a hole somewhere, but that said, its ALOT more stable than the other OSX releases. (In my experience anyway)

I've owned wvery version of OS X including OS X Beta. But I did not use OS X on a daily basis until version 10.2. Until then, in my opinion, OS X was not ready for prime time use.

Now I'm running OS 10.4.8 on my Intel Mac Pro. There's still several things missing in OS X when compared with OS 9. But everything is more stable. I've had several kernel panics plus countless system lockups. Also many programs will freeze & have to be force quit to free things up. Mac OS 10.4.8 is much more stable on my MDD G4 PowerMac & 17" G4 PowerBook. It seems like Mac OS 10.4.6 started out with the Intel Macs, with 10.4.7 installed on my Intel Mac Pro.

Mac OS 10.5 should make a bigger difference to the Intel Mac than the PPC Macs. Having several PPC Macs & only 1 Intel Mac, I hope that Apple continues developing the Mac OS for the PPC Macs. I wonder how long it is before Steve Jobs declares the PPC Mac dead & says like he did for OS 9 that no more development will come.

Same here! My AT&T contract ends on my birthday that week too! :D

    Nice :D

My AT&T contract ended a long time ago. I simply sell my old iPhone Jailbroken and unlocked on eBay for roughly $400, leaving a difference of roughly $200 for the ~$600 unsubsidized iPhone. No contract means I can say "SAYONARA" to AT&T™ at any time if they decide on screwing over their customers even more.

Riiiight. Because the iPhone launches every FALL, not summer. Hey the iPad 2 is coming out in June! And then another iPad, the iPad 3 is coming in the fall too!

    False.

You guys do realize apple has been designing this phone for probably a year and a half at this point right?

WADR, the sarcastic and condescending tone in comments such as above irk me and so many on MacRumors. "False"? "Riiiight?" Are we adults or play school children? Is it really necessary to claim to know exactly what Apple plans on doing so much so that you write statements of such finite veracity that assumes the receiver is ignorant to what you are apparently privy?

Forgive me for the commentary, but those of us who have been on here either reading news or currently commenting in threads are growing weary of the increasing disrespect amongst some members. Tone is difficult to read, keeping that in mind respond to others as though they were complete strangers, with respect and decency. Thank you.
