I don't see anything in Lion that would warrant that kind of pricing: some minor UI changes and lots of under-the-hood optimizations...sounds a whole lot like Snow Leopard.

Lion has a lot of new features though. Plus, like previous relases like Tiger and Leopard, they might announce more new features on this year's WWDC.

I do hope we can get both DVD and the USB stick for those who need it. The dvd drive on my macbook pro is busted so I would be really happy if they do release a USB.

Very skillful in how Jobs face and legs are hidden. Im beginning to think the newspapers are right about his condition.

Also, pretty tasteless to dress the way he does. I'm not a fan of Obama, but if I were to meet him and sit next to him for dinner, I would respect the office enough not no dress in freakin' turtle neck.

    Jobs has ZERO class, none.

I noticed they were all wearing shirts / tops - must be trying to hide some chest condition

Rich bastard who deserves to be shot 300 times in the heart.. Yes, I hate rich people... I am glad many died in WWII and other wars.. at least they can't take their money which is worthless anyway to heaven.

You have some serious issues.

Trump is a good businessman... which may be good for corporations if he gets elected. IMO though, what we need is a President who looks out for the people, not business.

Either way, I don't see a Republican candidate winning at the moment. Obama, even with "low" ratings, has enough to win re-election.

Yeah, a good businessman who took a casino, A CASINO, into bankruptcy THREE times. Dig a little deeper to see how many failures and questionable deals are out there.

Whether it ships or not, I hope it’s real and not just an OS hack. I’d like Apple to keep playing with different multitasking UIs. The current version is nice, and those iPad developer gestures are awesome, but it’s worth experimenting to find the best method.

The Expos thing is neat, but needs app icons added to the windows.

I like the new(?) folders—looks like they’d fit 3 icons across, to better match what you see in the folder icons! Hope they keep that system. Or something with 3 across. (Or, if nothing else, have 4 across but show the top-left 3x3 set in the icon.)

Anyone notice the lip around the edge on the front and back? Maybe will help avoid scratches when dragged on a flat surface.

Maybe that’s just how it looks in white, with that lighting? The glass may not be inset any more than the existing version—which has black plastic lip in the same place (flush with the glass).

At Pascack Hills, I have been on computers running NT4 and Windoze 2000, and both have *rarely* crashed on me. However, it's not common for me to see OS X crash on me. Even when I had 10.1 on my iMac 233 for a short time, it did not crash one time.

My point is that as stable as the Windoze OS is, as you point out, OS X, simply put, is even more stable. Although there are some issues with hardware, usually, that's with upgraded hardware, the OS performs very well under the power of the G4.

I have also heard about XP not crashing as much as the previous OSs. So I'll say it as it is: The Windoze OS is improving, but incremently closer to perfect. If an error pops up, at least explain what should be done about.

I do still prefer my titles as they are more user-friendly and product centric rather than type centric. For example with your way is that iPod Touch software would be in a different place from iPod Touch hardware. But your layout does have the advantage of less options to click on and it is still a lot better than the existing layout.

Great, now I can obsessively hit F12 every three hours to see how I'm doing rather than reloading the EOC site.

FYI, I've found you can have multiple instances running with different users in each. Now I can keep track of Dreadnought as well...:)

    Thanks redeye_be, you've done a great job.

I couldn't agree more. I use Audition/Cool Edit Pro at work (radio production) and have yet to find a suitable replacement for it on the Mac. Soundbooth has very limited usability without being able to bounce tracks into an integrated multitrack.

What's sad is that when I saw all the audio apps available for the Mac I thought Audition level functionality would be easy to find. I couldn't have been more wrong. I have tried Soundtrack and Peak, and each are good in their own way, but neither fill the needs of a typical radio station production load. It is very frustrating to me. Ironically, I sent an e-mail to Adobe just the other day requesting that they port Audition...when I saw the headline about Soundbooth, I got really excited until I realized it was a port of Cool Edit 2000. Still, I downloaded it and will test it on my iMac.

    Please Adobe...give us Audition!

I use Audition for the same purpose. I preferred the application when it was Cool Edit, I feel Adobe have bloated it out ever so slightly. But beggars can't be choosers - It's an important tool for me.

I've had a go with "SoundBooth", its literally the most basic editing pulled from the original Cool Edit code with a few effects pallets. Defiantly not enough for me. It runs well though, nice-ish interface, not sluggish. I personally wouldn't pay more than 30 - 40 for it, its just too basic.

well.. I was a sucker hoping for an authentic kit. My wife really wanted a white iphone, and I bought this kit to convert a regular one as an x-mas gift.

Apple has nothing to worry about. These pieces are not from Apple.. they're friggin plastic. Filing a dispute with paypal and my CC now.

    Hi everybody,

at the moment I've got an old non unibody MacBook Pro with an ACD like in the picture below. As apple has switched to the unibody models they started to put a black bezel on the the ACDs and a black keyboard to the MacBooks. What I love about the silver-only-design is, that the content on the screen is much more dominant, the MacBook and the ACD seems to fade away when you are working with them. I just wanted to know what you think about the new vs. old design.

    Regards

    Dave

    Yes you can.

I installed XP on a new HDD with only one large partition (NTFS) without the 200mb EFI partition from OS X. I didn't use Bootcamp at all.

So far, everything's working fine and I can boot between OS X and XP with no problems.

That's really interesting! You just held "c" at boot to load up the XP CD?

I'm guessing you still needed to use a "slipstreamed" XP SP2 CD with the SATA drivers installed so it doesn't run in dog slow PIO mode

Where the hell did you find chipset drivers, graphics card drivers, sound card drivers etc?

Your concerns are understood. My question is: how does this differ from having your wallet or credit card stolen? Amazing that we'll secure our computers up tightly to prevent online security breaches but we'll let the sketchy-looking waiter walk away with our credit card in the restaurant.....

OK - I admit that I can a certain tendency toward paranoia :o, but...

With respect to credit cards, most eating places where I am in the UK bring a machine to the table rather than taking the card away. A PIN is required. Also, one can erase or cover the 3-digit number on the back so that you reduce the chances of your stolen card being used online. My worry is that the RFID will be so automatic ('convenient') that you'll be able to wave your phone to purchase goods or services, without any other conformation of your identity. And it is true that security so far on RFID is far from perfect: indeed, one can now purchase shielded passport covers that reduce the chance of criminal access to sensitive passport information via RFID .

EDIT: Also, didn't O2 trial something called 'Wallet' that allowed a mobile phone to be used to buy things? I wonder how the trial turned out...

ehh.. you know wikipedia isn't always right, right?

They are both based on the Core architecture, that was my only point.
I thought you were saying that they were completely unrelated.

Of course they are branded differently, they have different uses.
Historically Xeon is for high-end workstations and servers, people know and expect this.

Surely a 'Made in USA' car is a thing to avoid? Big, no style, bad engines (huge capacity with no power), poor reliability, nasty plastics inside.

Get a european one, more reliable (VW, BMW, Mercedes, Audi) far far superior technology in the engines, safer and better for the environment, plus you pump money into our economy :p

Some really sexy cars: VW Scirocco, BMW 3 Series Coupe, Renault Megane Coupe, Audi TT, Volvo C30.... plus they will last for years!

Perhaps, but T-Mobile's major problem is coverage rather than saturation. (Although T-Mobile has filled in its gaps primarily with AT&T coverage agreements.) There aren't all that many people competing for AWS 3G service right now, even in places like New York and San Francisco, and that's precisely where the AT&T-only iPhone needs help.

Precisely. Tmo owns about 33% of the wireless spectrum in New York 45% of the wireless spectrum in San Fran according to this. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T-Mobile_USA#3G_upgrade)

Apple already sells the iPhone on T-Mobile; at least in Germany. If you really want to, just unlock one and pop in a TM sim card (try doing that on Verizon). Sure you won't get to play scrabble at 3G speeds on TM, but it's not like you'd be able to on AT&T. ;)

And in many other countries as well. I counted nine here (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1937) plus I believe Tmo is carrying it in the UK as well.

@ SAD*FACED*CLOWN IIRC they did not have the kind of deal where they allowed anyone with expiring contracts at anytime for the rest of 2008 or 2009 to upgrade at the full upgrade price. Also I think what I do partially because of the publicity around this deal.

Yeah, you might want to hold off on your move to Canada... This is going to be an interesting 4 years.

I was wrong about this election, I had posted elsewhere this was not going to change much, but I didn't realize that the Liberals and the Bloc were that weak. The losses of the Bloc boosted the NDP seats in Quebec, and the Liberal weakness helped both the NDP and Conservatives elsewhere.

The election was pretty crazy, take Ignatieff (who has now resigned BTW) even if you are leader of a party, and your riding has been a stronghold for your party, don't ignore it completely! Then again, check out Bev Oda; apparently you can misuse public money, make very questionable decisions as a minister, lie to parliament and get caught and force your minority government to fall in a vote of non-confidence... but as long as you play nice with the conservative leadership and remain silent, the people will elect you in a landslide.

    ... I just don't get it.

Me neither. I thought you Canadians were smarter that this. ;)

Great take on the topic. I like the way color and facial expressions make the incoming player stand out from his team mates. All of the Rugby shots you have posted in the forums show how wimpy American "football" players are.
