Hello Friends,
Could somebody pls. help and respond to this query.
In case of approved Change of Status from H4-H1B , when can the H1B holder apply for a SSN. Do we need to wait till Oct. 1 to apply for the SSN or can we apply earlier.
I heard that it can take anytime between 2-8 weeks and the H1B holder is not supposed to start working till they receive the SSN.
Thanks a lot for your help, its greatly appreciated.
You can apply only after October 1st, since that is the day the H1B person is eligible to work (and that's what I did for my wife).
Please cross check, if there is any way you can apply earlier.

What if a person has active TB and is currently being treated? Doctors are saying it will take 9 months to complete the medication.
Q1. Do we need to wait till 9 months to apply for I140 and 485?
Q2. When will the medical records be opened and monitored? is it when my 485 is being processed or before giving EAD?
Q3. If doctor says we have TB on the form, will i be queried by govt to get it checked again, or will i be rejected?

You can use the unexpired H-1 visa UNLESS your prior employer has withdrawn the underlying petition in which case the visa is void.

Note: Give me your lawyer email id. I will ask him to charge every question you ask, so he does not have to have any clients except you for his living.
A lot of lawyers do not charge money for every question you ask if you are their client. You can easily email them and ask questions or post on their intranet. It is part of their service that helps them get more business.
If your employer is their client, then of course the lawyer may not respond to you. Why should he?

We got an RFE on my wife's I-485 requesting for copy of marriage certificate. Our priority date is August 2005 (EB2). ND is September 05, 2007.

Right now I am leaning towards cancelling my trip, even though it is going to cost me the entire price of the ticket, besides of course the immeasurable cost of not visiting home.
About the suggestion of hiring a lawyer, can an immigration lawyer here in the US help me in any way with a situation (the renewal interview) and an all-powerful person (the interviewer) half-way across the world? I can see how a lawyer may help smooth this problem if I were changing status while in the country (say from F1 to H1), but I don't see how a lawyer would help with my visa renewal...perhaps I just don't understand the extent to which a lawyer may be able to help. Is my question clear?

A lawyer gives you legal counsel (suggestions/appraisals); they are not supposed to "do" stuff for you, nor take decisions for you. You pay your lawyer simply for reliable information (and paperworks, usually).

I would like to know whether I can now start a fresh EB2 and also apply for I140 and use the older Eb3 priority date of March 2005. I have not changed my company I need guidance for experts in this regard.
